The news feeds, and the subterranean regions of the blogosphere are abuzz with the “news” that a man has been beheaded on a Greyhound bus, in Canada, with a hunting knife, in front of 37 other people, by somebody who apparently did not know him, at all.

I am really struggling to comprehend this.
Why did nobody help ? Why not ? Could they not see that the victim was losing the most precious thing he owned ? Why not help him ? 37 people.
What does this quote from a witness MEAN ? “The attacker was calmly over the top of the victim continually cutting him. I think the victim was gone at that point,..“. Yes, one imagines he was gone by then. Beheaded. Gone.
The witnesses say the perpetrator was calm, as if though he was at the beach. I am at the beach. I decapitate someone sleeping next to me, on the beach. Blood on the sand. Head. Knife. WTF.
I do not know all the details. There may be very salient facts that I am missing. Nevertheless. I am experiencing very pronounced cognitive dissonance.
