Random Friday night thoughts

  1. If you were the PR/Marketing person for the United States of America, who would you have nominated to be elected as the next president after Bush ?
  2. It strikes me that many people do not understand what physicists mean when they talk about waves, and an even larger number of people do not understand the way in which this concept relates to quantum physics.
  3. Newspapers are the only institutions on the planet that are economically organised to gather vast amounts of data. I cannot remember where I got this from – kudos to the author, nevertheless. Many implications are implicit.
  4. Sadly, the truth is subjective.
  5. Although Richard Dawkins’ philosophy is intellectually pleasing, it does not soothe my soul. And I like having a soothed soul.
  6. Please try to see as many aspects of the reality you experience as possible. Contextualise, analyse and do try to create a framework for your response.
  7. I would be completely blown away to learn that there are in fact benevolent Pleiadians (Andromedans/Syrians, whatever – pick your favourite star) out there.  It would COMPLETELY freak me out to learn that they are actually into the business of starting religions on arbitrarily chosen inhabited planets. In fact – I feel freaked out without even knowing whether or not there are Pleiadians out there.
  8. Detox irks me. It is vastly incoherent pseudo-science.
  9. Humans are omnivores. Feel free not to eat meat. Feel free to eat it.
  10. Negativity is good. Without it there would be no attracting of positives.
  11. NEVER trust an analogy. Analogies are reductive representations of more complex realities. They ALWAYS hide something. This is definitely true of the previous point. Also see point 4.

    Hi Jacques

I try not to have to many thoughts on a Friday evening – I need to shut down first from work so by sunday I have my aha moments followed by confused “wtf was I thinking!” episodes as I try to capture it on paper.

Complex realities can never be put into words, so all we have is analogies but sadly complex realities are also subjective and for that reason also analogies that should never be trusted but used wisely for easy interpretation. Metaphors are much better – especially ones with humor – but also closer to complex realities and should therefor be interpreted as such.

I stumbled across your webpage and enjoyed catching up with you – I think it is well over 20 years! As a 1967 baby and only recently thrown into facebook and blog pages my experience is bizzare to have you in my office without talking to you. It was exciting but the jury is still out what I think about it. Suppose it has good and bad sides as everything in life.
